Luke Lambert Syrah 2018

Yarra Valley, Victoria, AustraliaFrom south east Yarra's Tibooburra vineyard, this cooler site was planted in 2001 to this darker, more strucutral clone of syrah. It's well matched to the unusual soils: seams of black volcanic topsoil over yellow clay, with a smattering of granite. True to Lambert form, this was 80% whole bunch and native ferment, aged in neutral 5000L oak where it remained until bottling, unfined and unfiltered, and with its first sprinkling of sulphur. This reflects the warm, dryer 2018 with riper cherry and fleshy plum, but it maintains acidity and freshness due to the soils and site. The perfumed plum courses through this fresher (13 degrees) red, teeming with cracked pink peppercorn, boysenberry, and thorns. Tannins are whisper fine, just holding in the plump, soft, lightly hazy palate. Acidity is brisk throughout, lofting this layered red and stretching it long on the palate. Give this beauty a slight chill, and some airtime before you tuck in.Tasted: 16 April 2020Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
