Jean-Claude Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet 2016
Chassagne Montrachet, Côte de Beaune, Côte d'Or, Burgundy, FrancePierre Ramonet arrived in Burgundy in the late 1920s with nothing but a knapsack, and started to earn money by buying and vinifying grapes. The land value was very low, so hardworking Pierre was able to accumulate vineyard plots surrounding the village of Chassagne-Montrachet, with his first purchase within the great Ruchottes vineyard in 1934. Pierre eventually handed over the reins to his son André, who died in 2011, and subsequently to his grandchildren, Noël and Jean-Claude, who had tended the family vineyards since 1984. The Domaine produces 24 appellation wines from 40 acres located primarily near Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet in the southern Côte de Beaune. From 1972-planted vines, this wine started ferment in stainless before transferring to barrel, where it remained 12-15 months. This youthful Chassagne-Montrachet presents as it should, precisely, with the wood framework at the fore, housing creamy lemon, pear and white florals on a generous, open core.
