Bordeaux, FranceChâteau le Puy lies on the same rock plateau as Saint-Emilion and Pomerol, known in ancient times as The Plateau of Wonders due to the excellence of its wines. The Amoreau family has been living and working on the Château le Puy estate since 1610. Firmly biodynamic, this oft-overlooked estate is a hidden gem of the Right Bank. Old school in the best possible modern way, you can think of this friendly, slight, fresh red as modern claret. This cuvée is a native fermented field blend of 85% Merlot, along with cabernet franc, 6% cabernet sauvignon, 1% malbec and 1% carménère. It is matured in oak barrels and casks for 24 months before bottling. Fresh and modern and a welcome 13% alcohol, this medium-bodied Bx rings with crushed cassis, black plum, anise, graphite, sweet tobacco, along a lightly leathery, lengthy base. Tannins are grippy, structurally finely firm, to a lengthy, humming finish.
