Sicily, Italy350 metre deep, sandy volcanic soils are at the heart of this 60/30/10 blend of corinto, nero d'avola, and alicante grown on Sicily's Lipari Island. The attack is attractively ripe but balanced by altitude acidity and the island's magical volcanic soils. Bing cherries mark the nose and spill across the palate, mixing with black raspberries and dried herbs. There is a lot to like here, and it is only beginning to show its very bright future. Savoury and laced with dense powdery tannin, this will age gracefully through 2025 and beyond. A whole roasted chicken would be an elegant dinner match.Tasted: 01 June 2020Tasted by: Prices:

Sicily, ItalyThis comes from Lipari Island, part of the volcanic Aelian Islands north of Sicily. The blend is based on corinto nero, an indigenous variety commonly associated with the Aelian Islands, alongside 30% nero d’avola, and 10% alicante. The fruit is destemmed and then fermented with wild yeasts at cool temperatures, with a short time on the skins. It is then aged in stainless steel for 12 months and bottled unfiltered. From the winemaking to the glass, there’s a clear stylistic aspiration: a light-bodied, juicy red that is meant to be enjoyed with a slight chill. However, it doesn’t sacrifice any sense of place in achieving that. The fruit shows clear Mediterranean character, with sunbaked black fruits, sun-dried tomato, herbs, and a distinctive florality. It’s quite savoury, true to Italian form, but moreish in a way that will be familiar to fans of Beaujolais. A wine well off the beaten path that is worth discovering.Tasted: 13 June 2020Tasted by: Prices:

Sicily, ItalyThis blend is 60/30/10 corinto, nero d'Avola and alicante is from Sicily's Lipari Island, and its fertile, 350m deep sandy volcanic soils. After destemming, it undergoes a native ferment in stainless, where it remains for one-year post-ferment. It was bottled without fining. Plump and sun-ripened, yet fresh with soils and altitude, it teems with perfumed cherry blossoms, ripe raspberry, scrubby thorns, bergamot, and a healthy dusting of sweet baking spices. Tannins are soft and powdery, hugging the cushy palate to a floral finish. Quite distinct.Tasted: 20 March 2020Tasted by: Prices:
