Marlborough, South Island, New Zealand2018 marks the 30th vintage of Nautilus, primely situated with Clive Jones at the winemaking helm. This is a creamy, rich and powerful chardonnay, with fruit off their Renwick estate (newer Bourgogne clones and older 15) blended with Dijon clone 95 from a neighbouring site. This was chilled overnight and direct pressed to French barrique (20% new) for native ferment and a short time on lees with bâtonnage prior to bottling. Creamy and wood spiced, this rich chardonnay packs a whopping lot into a 13% declared frame. Lemon curd, toasted hazelnut, buttery pastry is propped up with lemon peel, green apple, nutmeg and cloves, and a welcome flash of acidity. A big wine that is ready for cracking into now, ideally with butter drawn crab or popcorn.Tasted: 27 October 2021Tasted by: Prices:

Marlborough, South Island, New ZealandWinemaker Clive Jones nailed 2018, checking in at 13 percent alcohol with an intense nutty hazelnut nose and rich, creamy textures. A touch of yellow colour reflects its 100 percent barrel fermentation in 20 percent new French oak. The palate is equally fresh and lively with nectarine, citrus, almonds that beckon you toward a mineral, stony finish. Despite one of the warmest seasons ever, this wine delivers all you want in a cool-climate Next World chardonnay. Whole roasted chicken stuffed with lemons is a great match — super value for high-quality chardonnay.Tasted: 16 March 2020Tasted by: Prices:
