Castello di Roncade Villa Giustinian 2017

The estate was founded in 1508, and the current family has owned the historic property since the early 1900’s. The entire estate is farmed organically. This special single vineyard blend can be considered one of the first (if not the first) Super Venetian, one of Italy's first Bordeaux-inspired blends, pre-dating the Super Tuscan phenom by a decade or more. After travelling to Bordeaux in the 1940s and 1950s, the Baron decided to plant Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Malbec, and the original 1950's wine blended these 4 grapes. However, in 2017, Malbec was replaced with a small percentage of the indigenous Raboso grape, making it more of a Super Venetian. All the parts are certainly present, well-represented, and integrated via layered herbal cherry, leather, black plum, lined with dusty gravels, dark earth, and bound with fine sinewy tannins to an herbal, cracked spice, tight, warming finish. Drinking well now, but can hold longer in your cellar.Tasted: 27 March 2020Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
