Domaine Weinbach Cuvée Théo Riesling 2016

Alsace, FranceFrom Weinbach’s Clos des Capucins, which is farmed organically and biodynamically, this was fermented with indigenous yeasts and then matured in old foudres. After an initial whiff of sulphur dioxide, this opens up beautifully with a ripe nose of honey, candied lemon, crushed rock, and lees. The palate is fairly concentrated with good dry extract, but more medium-bodied and lively than you see with some Alsatian Rieslings. Dry in style; there’s 8 g/L of residual sugar, but the racy acidity easily takes care of that, leaving this balanced and already drinking well now. It’s curiously bottled under a Diam 5 cork, which is guaranteed for five years, though in fact this wine will easily age for longer.Tasted: 11 January 2020Tasted by: Geoffrey Moss MWPrices:
