Hartford Court Chardonnay 2017
Russian River, Sonoma County, California, United StatesI love that these wines are evolving with time. The Hartford Court wines are all about artisanal winemaking from hand-harvesting at night or early morning, to whole cluster pressing, indigenous yeast, and barrel fermentation in only French oak (32% new). The 2017 Russian River Valley Chardonnay comes from a collection of small vineyards throughout the AVA, many of which are state-owned. Is it Burgundy? No, but then Burgundy is not the Russian River. That said, this is impressive “Grand Cru” chardonnay. The fruit is super intense but clean, and thankfully now linear, and less fat.
