Frescobaldi Castello di Nipozzano Mormoreto 2015

Tuscany, ItalyMormoreto is the flagship wine of Castello di Nipozzano is grown on the 25-hectare Mormoreto Vineyard rich in sand and well-drained with a heavy presence of limestone and clay all planted in 1976. The site elevation is 250m to 300m above sea level. The first vintage was from the harvest of 1983, but it only produced in exceptional years. It was scratched in 1984, 1987, 1989, 1992, 1998 and 2002. Since the 2013 vintage, small amounts of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and petit verdot grapes planted 150 years ago have been introduced to the blend. We love the 2015 vintage aided by the long warm summer and supported by the beneficial rains of the first week of August. The ageing is done in hand-split oak barrels, partly new and once-used for 24 months, followed by a further six months in the bottle. The nose is a complex mix of smoke, black olives and enticing blueberry/raspberry fruit flecked with black tea notes.m The palate is equally intense with ripe, juicy fruit and dense, sweet, youthful tannins. The finish is lush and packed full of savoury cassis, black olive, peppery, blackberry, licorice flavours. So young and so impressive already, this is one to cellar if you can wait.Tasted: 28 December 2019Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
