The Hatch Dynasty Red 2017
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe blend is 51/21/28 cabernet sauvignon, malbec, syrah, from Monarch and Hans Vineyard in Osoyoos, along with Jagger Rock in the Similkameen Valley. Jason Parkes makes this wine, noting label artist Paul Morstad's work inspires the team. "Our Dynasties are wines made for the pure, hedonistic sake of the wines themselves and will always be the pinnacle of the inspirational Hatch motto — 'history is filled with the sound of silken slippers going downstairs and wooden shoes coming up.'" Voltaire. It's all aged in for 16 months in new oak to create opulence, texture and, most of all, big flavour. It is fresher than you might expect, at least before the tannin kicks in. Like last year, the syrah adds structure, black pepper, and boysenberry, while malbec rounds out the blend with black cherry adding charm and a plummy fragrance. A leg of lamb is the perfect match at this point.Tasted: 05 November 2019Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $46.99 | 750ml | winery direct, private wine shops, restaurants |
