Chateau Ste. Michelle Merlot Cold Creek Vineyard 2013

Columbia Valley, Washington, United StatesSourced from Cold Creek Vineyard in the Columbia Valley, a pioneering vineyard originally planted in 1973, this merlot shows more winemaking than vineyard. Lavishly oaked with 71 percent new French and American barrels, there’s lots of spice and dark chocolate, with caramelized black fruits and a herbal note poking through in the background. It’s round and medium-bodied with soft, wooly tannins that are fairly well resolved at this stage. All in all, this is ready for prime time, as the fruit is beginning to fade behind the oak. I’d like to see just a bit more depth and nuance at this price.Tasted: 05 November 2019Tasted by: Geoffrey Moss MWPrices:
