Bramito della Sala Chardonnay 2018

Umbria, ItalyBramìto is grown at centuries-old Castello della Sala, 18 kilometres from the famed hilltop town of Orvieto. Fossil-dotted clay soil is the home of this chardonnay, one that projects elegance and minerality on the nose and palate. 2018 was a cool vintage that began with plenty of rainfall to replenish the subsoil, and followed with warm summer days and cool nights, perfect for ripening fruit and maintaining acidity through a late August harvest. Varied lots were treated separately: some went into oak barrels, others to stainless steel vats. Only the juice fermented in oak went through malolactic fermentation. The inaugural vintage of Bramito della Sala was 1994. In 2018 it explodes across the palate with a brisk freshness and aromas of tropical fruit, citrus, and hazelnuts. The texture is buttery and round but tightens in the back end where the citrus persists to light up the delicate mineral notes, adding balance and perspective to a complex, food-friendly white. A perfect solution for most west coast seafood and New World restaurant wine lists.Tasted: 21 November 2019Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
