M. Chapoutier Crozes-Hermitage Les Meysonniers Rouge 2017

Crozes Hermitage, Northern Rhone, Rhone Valley, FranceAlways one of the very best value Crozes-Hermitage, Les Meysonniers comes off the lower slopes and the flats south and east of the hill Hermitage. The vines are a quarter-century old and are 100 percent organic. Chapoutier says the vineyard's soils allow the roots to go deep, tapping minerality you do not see in other Crozes-Hermitage. Vinifying and ageing it in concrete further enhances its natural flavours. The nose is a full-frontal assault of red and black plum with persistent, gentle spicing, and a twist of garrigue. That said, the attack is elegant and measured with a meaty, peppery, savoury finish. The winery describes the Meysonniers Rouge as a "bistro-nomic" red made for home cooking. I agree, and suggest pork or lamb to pair now and over the next decade.Tasted: 16 October 2019Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
