Terrasses de Larzac, Coteaux du Languedoc, Languedoc, Sud de France, FranceLa Sauvageonne is a mix of individual lots of syrah, grenache, mourvèdre, and carignan growing among the basalt, schist and red soils known as ‘ruffes’ in the highly acclaimed sub-appellation of Terrasses du Larzac. The appellation is located in the northern reaches of the Hérault département, a region known for its significant temperature amplitude and its distance from the Mediterranean sea and proximity of the Causse limestone ridges, all of which cool down the hot summer nights. The nose is intense, reflecting the black fruit base and the strong garrigue that fills the air in the vineyards. The attack is youthful, but the tannins sweet. Look for licorice, orange peel, black plum, black raspberry, and meaty flavours that persist from front to back.
