Burgundy, FranceAligoté is the third grape of Burgundy, often called the third cousin of the more profitable chardonnay. That said, it’s been planted in Burgundy for over 200 years, and the variety is at its best in the wines of the regional Bourgogne Aligoté appellation. At Rion, the Aligoté vines are nudging sixteen years, planted over gravelly, silty loams and clays. Aligoté is always a skinny wine but in the right way with fresh acidity that perks up the palate, a touch of lees, and a lemony, green apple bright, refreshing finish. This laser-sharp white is great with creamy seafood and pasta dishes. Love the value here. Could we do this in BC?Tasted: 29 November 2019Tasted by: Prices:

Burgundy, FranceThe estate was started in 1955 by Daniel Rion with only two hectares of vines in the commune of Vosne Romanée. Daniel sold his wine to Burgundian negociants until 1978 when his sons joined him, and they worked together in the business until Daniel retired in 1995. They now farm 18ha across multiple appellations. From 15+ year old vines on gravelly, silty loams and clays, this aligoté is all tight and sharp green apple and streaming lemon. Quite lean and tart and lemony; best taken with shellfish or lighter green salads.Tasted: 19 October 2019Tasted by: Prices:
