Olivier Leflaive Bourgogne Chardonnay 2016
Burgundy, FranceA leaner, fresher style of chardonnay, with only 5% aged in oak barrels and the balance fermented and aged in stainless steel. At first taste, you might think you’re in Chablis. But there’s a ripeness to the fruit that points further south, with a combination of yellow apple and lemon notes, yet the fruit isn’t the focus. The wine gains complexity from ten months on lees, with wet rocks and a flinty, reductive note that pulls you into the glass. The lees influence also adds some creaminess to the palate, which is balanced by fresh acidity and a clean finish. An excellent introduction to white Burgundy, and at a price that makes you want to reach for the region more often. It is not your standard Bourgogne.Tasted: 05 July 2019Tasted by: Geoffrey Moss MWPrices:BC | $38.99 | 750ml | private wine shops |
