Bellwether Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

Coonawarra, South Australia, AustraliaNeed proof that Coonawarra cabernet sauvignon can age? This 11-year old cabernet sauvignon still has a deep ruby core, with the colour only beginning to fade at the rim. There’s more evident development on the nose, with attractive tertiary cedar notes, but the fruit is still bright and fresh. And then there’s that dusty, dried eucalyptus, which immediately places you in Coonawarra. The palate doesn’t quite live up to the nose; it’s well balanced (and only 13% abv) with resolved, fine-grained tannins, but it lacks mid-palate weight and the flavours come across slightly diluted. At peak now, it will hold for an additional 3-5 years. A steal if you can get it on sale for $31.97, as I did. The winery currently lists this wine at AUD $90.Tasted: 06 July 2019Tasted by: Geoffrey Moss MWPrices:
