Gérard Bertrand Le Viala 2016

Minervois la Liviniere, Minervois, Languedoc, Sud de France, FranceLe Viala comes off a small 3-hectare block of vines at Château Laville Bertrou in La Livinière. The style is big and boisterous, reflecting its marlstone/chalky limestone soils that date back millions of years. The mix is classic Languedoc: syrah, grenache, and carignan. The grenache (20%) and carignan (15%) is vat fermented carbonically, while the syrah is fermented traditionally. All wines are aged one year in oak and stored a further year at the wineries before being marketed. The palate is dry and juicy with rich, dense sweet tannins. Licorice, blackberry, black raspberries and five-spice dusted in garrigue permeate this complex red. Cellar for a decade or break out the barbecue and the lamb.Tasted: 23 April 2019Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
