Franciscan Sauvignon Blanc 2017
Monterey County, Central Coast, California, United StatesCalifornia sauvignon is an enigma. The region calls for a new version of sauvignon, à la New Zealand or the Loire, but you seldom encounter that style. Sure, it is warm, but why not pick earlier and head for the coast and try for a skinnier style? In this case, the wine is halfway there. The lemon is present, but the fruit is more candied than tart. There is a nice touch of grass and herbs that perfectly offsets the ripe tropical notes, but the finish is a touch woolly and bitter. It will appeal to those who don't like the tartness, but I would prefer it with a bit more zip in the finish.Tasted: 02 April 2019Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:ON | $19.95 | 750ml | LCBO - Vintages |
