Stonestreet Estate Chardonnay 2016

Alexander Valley, Sonoma County, California, United StatesIf Alexander Valley and chardonnay seem odd this wine could change your mind beginning with its pears, stones, mineral, apples, peaches aromas and flavours combines with a cool-ish saline demeanour. If there is a California clue it could be its “Cru”-like, or mountain structure bubbling underneath a spicy, baked apple finish. Stonestreet winemaker Lisa Valtenbergs makes this single-vineyard estate chardonnay from a blend of some 235 individual blocks across her Alexander Mountain vineyard that sits over clay loam at 400-1,800 feet above the valley. Of the 5,100 acres that make up the Stonestreet estate, only 900 are planted to grapes. Jess Jackson acquired the old Zellerbach Winery in 1989 and named it after his late father, Jess Stonestreet Jackson. Since then Stonestreet has quietly reinvented itself as it came to explore the unique fruit of Alexander Mountain. Today, traditional Old-World methods of hand harvesting, small barrel lot production, native yeast fermentation and bottling each wine unfiltered provides the framework and ethos for each Stonestreet label.Tasted: 02 February 2019Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
