Bannockburn Vineyards Serré Pinot Noir 2015
Geelong, Victoria, AustraliaSerré is French for tightly packed, referring to the very high density vineyard meant to replicate conditions of Grand Cru Burgundy. This is Bannockburn's pinot pinnacle, a block of own-rooted MV6 (yes, the same cultivar that was propagated from the cuttings that James Busby sourced from Clos Vougeot in the 19th century) planted in 1984 and 1986. This was 15 percent whole bunch, native ferment for 19 days prior to pressing to French hogsheads (20 percent new) for 15 months, then racked into older hogsheads to settle prior to bottling. Fragrant and haunting black raspberry, dark cherry, smoked wild herbs, spiced rhubarb flow along the focused, finessed and lengthy palate, deftly framed by fine, firm tannins. The finish is long and salt rinsed, welcoming investigating with glass after glass. Beauty drinking now, but will continue to shine with cellaring.Tasted: 26 January 2019Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:BC | $97.00 | 750ml | private wine stores |
