Lillooet, British Columbia, CanadaA blast from the past, this chardonnay relies on a heavy dose of oak to build the palate, and it almost gets away with it given the pure, ripe fruit involved. The apple is cloaked in a honey and oak jacket that is spicy and rich but somewhat flat on the palate. The intensity is excellent, and if you like a big, oaky chardonnay, this is for you. I would love to see a gentler hand here and let the fruit speak first. At 12.6 percent alcohol, this wine has plenty to give. It needs only be set free from wood to tell its story. Ready to drink. Best with a turkey.Tasted: 16 November 2018Tasted by: Prices:

Lillooet, British Columbia, CanadaThough the front label shows a Reserve Chardonnay (and new gray label), the back refers to this chardy as White Gold, which is what Fort Berens' estate chardonnay has been named in the past. Indeed, this tastes very much like the White Gold of previous years, with clove-cloaked wood, ripe lush pear, yellow apple, plump lees and rich butter, all worked onto a lemon curd palate. There are glimpses of fresh fruit here (a welcome 12.6 degrees declared), but the wood and heavy hand laden this down beyond more than one glass.Tasted: 24 October 2018Tasted by: Prices:
