Costaripa RosaMara 2016

Lombardy, ItalyThis attractive rosé is from Valtènesi DOC, a subzone of the Riviera del Garda Classico DOC, near Lombardy's Lake Garda. This is a blend of estate groppello, marzemino, sangiovese, and barbera, macerated with skins (giving that striking orange peach hue) before 30 percent or so goes into small oak casks and the remainder into stainless for six months. They seem to be going for the Provençal feel, from the distinct bottle to the silken mouthfeel. Bitter cherry, strawberry, rose petals, red currants, mandarin are infiltrated with a resinous herbal scrub before finishing with bitter bergamot tea and grapefruit pith. The mid palate is plump with lees, though the silken mouthfeel and length keeps this savoury, dry wine sleek. A lovely unexpected find, and one suited to smoked / oily fish.Tasted: 03 October 2018Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
