Cahors, Sud-Ouest, FranceThere’s no shortage of colour or concentration here, with the inky purple hue staining the sides of the glass. The Calcaire shows why modern Cahors is so exciting, combining black and blue fruits with savoury minerality and iodine. It’s still just a baby, with lots of time to continue to open and build complexity. To be sure, the rustic, mouth-coating tannins need some time to resolve, and the wine certainly has the potential to go another 5-10 years. Good value.Tasted: 04 January 2020Tasted by: Prices:

Cahors, Sud-Ouest, FranceFrench malbec has a spotty history in Cahors unless you loved the monster, black editions that were the norm in the 70s and 80s and persist among some producers today. We lean more toward the refined offerings. Germaine Croisille is one such grower and family in its third generation making beautiful malbec with finesse and style. The vineyards are 30 to 25 years old on limestone soils and you can feel it throughout the wine and its understated fruit, light licorice and pepper and its sensational chalky textures. This is a bargain for wine geeks. Real wine.Tasted: 09 October 2018Tasted by: Prices:
