Falletto di Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Asili Riserva Red Label 2004

ItalyFrom the cellar. Bruno Giacosa has been producing some of the most sought after wines out of Piedmont since 1961. The Red Label Reserva isn't produced every year, only when the winery deems a vineyard and wine worthy. All the other wines of the vintage are released under the white label. Thus, when you are lucky enough to find a Giacosa Red Label, scoop. In 2004, it was decided that the Barbaresco Asili was red label worthy. Pouring a bricking hue, and benefitting with decanting, this reveals intoxicating complexities of spices, leather, worn wood, dried currants, truffles and hints of anise on a lengthy, finely supple palate, one striated with 14 years in bottle, but still tight with drive and energy to carry it another decade. Notes of sarsaparilla, dried black tea, worn tobacco leaves season this contemplative, finessed wine through the lengthy end. This was bottle 6193. Sadly, Bruno Giacosa passed away earlier this year at age 88, still running the 44ha estate, winery and cellar with his daughters Bruna and Marina.Tasted: 04 October 2018Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
