Laughing Stock Vineyards Blind Trust Red +03/10 2016
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaNow intrenched in the gigantic Arterra Wines Canada family, Laughing Stock is in transition, with new ownership, and a new winemaker (Nikki Callaway) in place this summer. Blind Trust Red remains a full, plush, sweetly sun-ripened blend from Naramata and Osoyoos, aged for 15 months in French oak (one quarter new). This year's blend (secret until you peel back the capsule) is merlot, cabernet sauvignon, malbec, and cabernet franc, and each plays a key role. Malbec is the plush plum spicing, cabernet brings the dusty, structural frame, malbec is a perfumed blueberry / violets that flushes out the whole and cabernet franc adds the herbal savoury interest. There's a lovely acidity and peppery lift that brightens and charms what could be a monster wine.
