Thorle Saulheim Riesling Kalkstein 2016

Rheinhessen, GermanyThe sons and brothers Christoph and Johannes Thörle took over the family winery in Saulheim in 2006, exploiting the limestone soils of the north Rheinhessen. Less is more is the viticultural theme, followed by the hand-picking of grapes at several levels of maturity. Some 25 percent goes into traditional old oak barrels; 75 percent into stainless steel tanks. The ferment is natural and the wine sits undisturbed for six months before bottling. Aromas of ripe apricots and yellow peaches open. Look for that Rheinhessen richness followed by bright, full, yellow plums and apples with a push of acidity. The finish is similar with traces of green fruit, light minerality and freshness supported by mineral, salty, citrus notes. You can drink this now but you may want to wait three to five years to let it reveal its full power.Tasted: 09 May 2018Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
