Stag's Hollow Renaissance Meritage 2015

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe last time we tasted a Renaissance Meritage was the 2005 vintage, also the last time the wine was produced. Winemaker Dwight Sick felt the fruit in 2015 was up to the Renaissance standard, and produced this full, complexed co-fermented blend of estate merlot, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc. The latter was left whole berry and the first two were whole cluster, all pressed directly into French oak (1/3 new) where it rested 18 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. Dusky blackberry, savoury black cherry, thorns, pitch, anise and worn leather absorb the space on the palate and stream it along to a lingering, satisfying finish. Love the ample earthiness of the whole cluster franc here (11 percent), making this feel distinctly Okanagan. The texture is picture perfect in a year when it would have been easy to lose these grapes to excessive raisin-ing and for that matter alcohol. Hopefully it is not a decade until we see this again.Tasted: 09 March 2018Tasted by: Treve Ring & Anthony GismondiPrices:
