La Crema Shell Ridge Pinot Noir 2015

Sonoma Coast, Sonoma County, California, United StatesThe Shell Ridge is tagged Sonoma Coast but most of the grapes are grown primarily in the Annapolis area of the rugged Sonoma Coast, where the steep sloped mountainside vineyard sits one ridge in from the cool Pacific Ocean. The sandy loam soil occasionally yields ancient sea shells hence the wine’s moniker. It’s 100 percent pinot noir, namely clones 23, 115, 667, 777 and Pommard age for nine months in all French oak (35 percent is new). The 2015 harvest is the earliest on record and the wines are intense. In this case this pinot mixes cooler pomegranate fruit with black cherries, blackberries and resiny cedar undercurrents and black tea. Even so there is considerable charm here in a silky, rich, ready-to-drink pinot.Tasted: 19 March 2018Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
