Hickinbotham Clarendon Vineyard Brooks Road Shiraz 2015

McLaren Vale, South Australia, AustraliaThe Hickinbotham Clarendon Vineyard, established in 1971, is now a part of the country’s wine heritage, supplying fruit to produce many iconic labels. Oz Winemaker Charlie Seppelt takes the lead in shiraz production, making a markedly different style than its more full-bodied McLaren Vale cousins made at lower altitudes. The attack is almost skinny, with spicy red fruit and spice that suggests a wine that is bigger than it is. Hand-picked at 210-230 metres above sea level, the bunches are destemmed, and the sorted berries run into open fermenters. There is a four-day cold soak with a minimum of eighteen days on the skin. The wine was then basket pressed, and to minimize filtration at bottling, four rack-and-returns were conducted over fifteen months as the wine seasoned in a mixture of Burgundy-coopered barrels.Tasted: 14 March 2018Tasted by: Prices:
