Ribera del Duero, Castilla-Leon, SpainThe winery is based in the backyard of a wee house in the tiny town of Quintanilla de Arriba, Valladolid. Amparo Repiso, 4th generation winemaker, decided to start her own winery in 2004 with just one barrel of wine. A new winery came in 2013 to process the fruits from her two tempranillo vineyards. This is a blend of plots, expressing crushed berries, dusky florals, root vegetables, stony spice and a lingering medicinal cassis on the firm, compact palate. Five months in French and American oak smooth this out for drinking now, and without too much wood influence to detract, save for a crunchy, cedar, shorter finish.
