Calmel and Joseph Blanquette de Limoux Brut NV

Limoux, Languedoc, Sud de France, FranceCalmel & Joseph produce a traditional method sparkler with a second fermentation in the bottle that rests on its lees for 15 months before its disgorged and corked. Blanquette de Limoux differs from the region’s other Crémant offerings as it must consist of at least 90 percent Mauzac – a rare indigenous grape – before adding 10 percent of chardonnay and/or chenin blanc. At Calmel & Joseph the additional fruit is all chardonnay. Expect a fresh, dry sparkler that opens with a mineral wet stone nose that previews a flash of tropical fruit aromas and baked apple notes with a light citrus theme. Just a hint of nutty lees evens out the balance and the finish. Pleasantly fresh with a twist of exotic fruit and a dusting of austerity. The vines are planted to the west of Limoux at 200-300 metres over clay and limestone.Tasted: 28 February 2018Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
