Barone Ricasoli Casalferro 2015

Tuscany, ItalyCasalferro is a single vineyard merlot, situated within the historic Chianti Classico heart. Since it's not classic sangiovese based, it wears the IGT Toscana cloak. Intense and flushed with ripe black plum, blackberry, cola, dusky spices, bitter cherry, espresso. A thread of cherry acidity keeps this afloat, enveloped by downy, thick, lightly powdery tannins and finishing with lingering kirsch. I quite like what merlot does on these clay/chalk soils; it tasted distinctly Italian, and distinctly merlot, and very much Super Tuscan. As such, drink this potent wine now with giant red meat proteins, or hold for a few years in cellar.Tasted: 23 February 2018Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
