Barone Ricasoli Brolio-Bettino Chianti Classico 2015

Tuscany, ItalyOf the excellent 2015 vintage, Bettino was named for Bettino, the ancestor who invented the original recipe for Chianti in 1872. To honour him, the winery has tried to make this wine like it was made in the past: with a splash of Abrusco (Collorino), aged in larger barrel and with minimal filtration. A lick of spearmint peaks through the dusky dark fruit, with morello cherry, anise, salted black cherry fleshing out the firm frame. The abrusco seems to add a fresh, lifted, stridently herbaceous note to the middle. Great, firm, fine form.Tasted: 23 February 2018Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
