Descendientes de J. Palacios Pétalos 2015

Bierzo, Castilla-Leon, SpainÁlvaro Palacios’ three wineries reside in the historical Spanish wine regions of Rioja, Priorat and Bierzo. Each property features a unique geography and climate that reflects the centuries-old culture of the vineyard, revealing what Alvaro likes to call “mystical traits from the past.” The vineyards are situated near monasteries, chapels and pilgrimage routes, linking them to a spirituality of the past. It’s imperative to Alvaro that his wines be transparent, as in able to transmit the historical and cultural pulse of the region as well as the ever-important altitudes, orientations, the rocks, the steep slopes and the light. In short, the living elements and integral identity of each wine’s origin. Pétalos is all about its old vines, in this case, 60-years plus, and biodynamically farmed mencia grapes spread across several small, rocky slatey hillside plots worked by Álvaro Palacios and his nephew and co-proprietor, Ricardo Perez Palacios. Pétalos is made to be enjoyed now, as reflected by its light, airy, label design. Aged 10 months in barrels, the 314,000 bottles is a 94/5/1/ of mencía, indigenous white grapes and other red grapes. The attack is round and juicy, the nose aromatic and inviting, with rich, earthy, dark berry fruit flavours and just the right amount of tannin and texture to support the fruit. A playful, welcoming style meant to entice and complement your meal. Real wine that invites you to drink the entire bottle.Tasted: 22 March 2018Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
