Quails' Gate The Connemara Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc 2015

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis Bordeaux blend, sourced from across the Okanagan Valley, was named for the Stewart family's immigrant grandfather Richard Stewart Sr., who said that Connemara was the most beautiful part of his home country, Ireland. The sun-baked, smoked fruit is reflective of the 2015 vintage. This blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc, native fermented over one month, before 18 months in French wood. The density is felt on the thick weighty palate, redolent with cedar-lined blackcurrant, bitter black cherry, blacker espresso, and softened with a plush suede touch. Tannins are gritty and ample, even overriding the potent fruit at this youthful stage. The end flushes with heat and echoes with menthol, requiring a decant and a pairing of roast beef or lamb. This intense wine is very much in youth, and is best enjoyed after a few years in bottle.Tasted: 07 December 2017Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
