Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaIt doesn't get much rarer than tannat in the Okanagan. There are just three acres planted, representing 0.03% of total plantings, but it's far from a gimmick. Moon Curser has been working with tannat for a while now and, at eight years of age, the colour on this single varietal bottling is still impenetrably deep and purple, with just the faintest fading at the rim. It's quite savoury, led by warm spices and graphite that are complemented by still youthful dark plum and bramble. It's worth giving this some time in the glass, as the nose does evolve and open up nicely. Medium-full bodied, this is linear in texture with surprisingly fine-grained tannins that have resolved nicely over the last four years in bottle since we first reviewed it. It's an interesting, distinctive wine that’s an exciting discovery. It may not be cheap, but then how often are you able to try Okanagan tannat?Tasted: 12 July 2021Tasted by: Prices:

Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis is the best tannat we have seen from Moon Curser, and it has improved in my estimation since the National Wine Awards, where it showed very well. This guy is aged in 225L French oak barrels, of which 30 percent are new and 70 percent are neutral one to three-year-old vessels. It’s big and chewy but with some softness and plenty of black plum fruit, cloves and a dusting of baker’s spices. You can drink this now, preferably with a rare steak, but I would wait a decade to see the real story and it will be just fine under screwcap. The fruit is grown on the very warm Osoyoos East Bench where Moon Cursor says the sandy soils help mitigate the excessive tannins.Tasted: 04 December 2017Tasted by: Prices:
