Saggi 2014
Columbia Valley, Washington, United StatesThe Folonaris are among Italy’s oldest wine families with a Tuscan winemaking history that dates to the late 1700s. The father-son team of Ambrogio and Giovanni Folonari first created Saggi in 2006. The 2014 Saggi, a 52/32/16 blend of sangiovese, cabernet sauvignon and syrah, like the other ’14 Long Shadows labels, is impressive. Expect a big red with a licorice, red fruit nose. The texture and tannins are silky soft, fast becoming a Long Shadows trademark. The flavours have a bright wild berry character that easily subdues the spice and heat. It is all aged 18 months in 100 percent French oak barrels, 55 percent new. Long Shadows recently announced that director of winemaking and viticulture Gilles Nicault, who has collaborated with the Folonaris since the beginning, will assumed complete winemaking responsibilities with the 2016 wines.Tasted: 16 October 2017Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $70.00 | 750ml | speculative listing - Mark Anthony Brands |
