Adelaide Hills, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide, South Australia, AustraliaFrom the cellar. Boom, what a wine. Named for the grower, Bernie Swaby, who was the Head Geologist for the University of South Australia in the 1980s. This Piccadilly Valley vineyard is one of the highest in Adelaide Hills, right below Mount Lofty. The site is east facing at 650 meters, rooted in sandstone with quartz. Swaby Chardy, clone 110v1, 1983 planted, was native fermented and pressed to French barrique (partial new) for full MLF and sporadic bâtonnage for 10 months before bottling, unfined and unfiltered. The reductive edge is still very much present, sculpting the structural, fuller palate of toasted popcorn, lemon curd and peel, broken stones, crunchy meringue, and roasted hazelnuts. Acidity is still shining, carrying this easily to the subtly saline, super stony finish. Drinking beautifully now, and still with life ahead.Tasted: 26 March 2022Tasted by: Prices:

Adelaide Hills, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide, South Australia, AustraliaSerious wine. Planted in 1983, this is clone 110V1 Kenton Valley chardonnay that saw one year in French oak (25 percent new). Swaby is the grower of this striking chardonnay, one drinking very well now but will easily cellar for a decade +. This opens and carries a reductive swing throughout the muscular palate, drawing roasted nuts, hazelnuts, kernels, crisp apple and lemon blossom on the structural and grippy frame, right down to the big snap of salts / aged parmesan on the flinty finish. Only four barrels were made. Like all of BK's wines, this benefits from a decant.Tasted: 17 October 2017Tasted by: Prices:
