Santi Solane Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore 2015

Verona, Veneto, ItalyThis is a blend of 80 percent corvina and 20 percent rondinella made in the traditional ripasso style, with Amarone skins added to the wine after primary fermentation to add complexity and weight. Ripasso is always a bit of a contradiction and this wine is no different, combining an undercurrent of tart red fruits and herbs with confected, raisonated fruit and chocolate. However, the balance is more seamless in this case and, if anything, leans more towards Amarone in style than a generic Valpolicella. It may not have the depth or complexity of the former, but it’s also easily half the price. Good value, and a perfect hearty, medium-full bodied red for the winter months.Tasted: 11 January 2020Tasted by: Prices:
