Vanessa Vineyard Rosé 2016

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaIf you want to know why 2106 whites were so good it was all about the weather: no heat spikes and a long growing season. The growing degree days in Cawston from April to October of 2016 were 1,521, well above the local twelve-year average of 1,320. The winemaking is saignée, or bleeding the tanks, in this case mostly syrah (68) and merlot (32) after six hours of skin contact. It’s about as rich a rosé as you can get, more Tavel than Provencal led by a savoury, spicy nose offering a mix of dark berries and candied currants. Soft and round but lacking the electric, mineral notes of the region’s white wines. Try this with Peking Duck, or grilled sausages.Tasted: 14 August 2017Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
