Trinity Hill Gimblett Gravels Syrah 2014

Gimblett Gravels, Hawkes Bay, North Island, New ZealandTrinity Hill was one of the first to plant on the Gimblett Gravels, back in 1993. Winemaker Warren Gibson has been overseeing the 80ha of vineyards since 1997. This wine has fruit from both Tin Shed and Gimblett Stones vineyards. 20 percent was whole bunch pressed and all spent 14 months in new and used French oak barrels and 500L oak ovals. Dusky floral, violets, black pepper, shepherds pie, pretty florals, perfumed with 3 percent viognier. Very complete on the palate, with anise, light smoke filtering the peppered and pure black cherry and blackberry fruit, ripely sweet on the core. Tannins are dusty stones and the finish is bright. Settling into its age nicely, this is drinking very well now and will continue to impress with time.Tasted: 21 August 2017Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
