Howling Bluff Pinot Noir Acta Vineyard 2014

Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaHowling Bluff has made some amazing progress over the last five years including going sustainable in a big way. No pesticides or chemical fungicides is welcomed by this writer and the plan to be a Net Zero power user by the early 2020s is impressive. Pinot noir is a big focus and winemaker Luke Smith and his son Daniel are all in. I am loving what we see in this 2014 Acta (beach) Vineyard pinot. The site is all 777 and planted on a western sloping ancient seabed. A decade of learning sees this pinot get about a year in oak, split almost evenly between new, one-year-old wood and two-year-old barrels. Sweet pinot spills from the glass redolent in cherries and strawberries, with a touch of savoury, brown spice. Soft, silky and warm it coats the palate in generous ripe red fruit. Well done.Tasted: 22 August 2017Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
