Coastal Region, South AfricaThe cabernet sauvignon in Protea is mostly from the Groenekloof ward in the Darling area. The nose is a fresh mix of floral/violet notes and a mix of black fruits. The attack is youthful and bright with the fruit showing little effect from one year in a mix of one and two-year-old oak and 500 litre stainless steel barrels. Cherries, blueberries, coffee and scents of freshly turned earth punctuate the finish. A simple, well-made, Euro-style cabernet to accompany hamburgers and grilled sausages.
