Summerland Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaRetasted. This is one of Canada's singular wines. And amazingly, it's sauvignon blanc - but it's not about the grape. This is all about site. From Summerland's Waters & Banks vineyard, this is whole bunch pressed, native ferment in concrete tanks for seven months on gross lees, without racking. Heady white asparagus, honeysuckle, lemon thistle, elderflower, large flake sea salts filter throughout. There's a lovely perfumed fennel, medicinal thistle and lingering with a persistent minerality. Savvy is just a vessel for transmitting the site that Pedro Parra, Alberto Antonini and Matt Dumayne have analyzed as worthy. Whole bunch pressed, native ferment in concrete tanks for seven months on gross lees, without racking. White asparagus, lemon thistle, elderflower, large flake salts filter throughout the creamy base, scented with grilled fennel, medicinal white cherry and lingering with a persistent minerality. Haywire Waters and Banks Sauvignon Blanc 2016

Summerland Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis Haywire white is named after Summerland vineyard owners Terry Waters and Cathy Banks' three hectare Trout Creek Canyon vineyard. The soil substructure is a mix of rich limestone and granite and the site is currently in year three of its transition to certified organic. The grapes are whole bunch pressed and fermented with native yeast and despite the bright acidity, it goes through a full malolactic fermentation in concrete tanks before spending seven months on its gross lees with no racking. As Treve would say “lemon thistle” and desert herbs mark the nose, which previews a creamy but bright mid-palate full of lees, citrus/mandarin, fennel, sea salt and smoke.
