Intellego Chenin Blanc 2012

Swartland, Coastal Region, South AfricaSalted wild herbs, hay kicks off this old bush vine Swartland chenin blanc, now starting to show the nutty sheen of chenin with some age. A blend of two sites (one granitic and one sandy clay over gravels), this was whole bunch pressed into older French barriques and puncheons for nine months on the lees, unracked until bottling, unfined and unfiltered. Jurgen Gouws is one of the young new wave Swartland gems, owning no vineyards but making exceptional wines (like this) from singular sites he has selected, under the Intellego brand. Such a complete and complexed wine at this point, with honeysuckle, perfumed pear on a comfortable cushion of lees, one that lingers with a lightness which is alluring.Tasted: 30 May 2017Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
