Elgin Vintners Merlot 2013
Elgin, Overberg, South AfricaThis wine benefits from decanting or being opened far in advance. Lean cassis, black cherry opens this cooler climate merlot from Elgin. Severe black plum, cassis on the gilt palate, bounded by soft, downy, cocoa-dusted tannins which turn quickly astringent on the finish. It feels like the fruit and the oak are still settling into each other, with decanting / air being the marriage officiant. This spent nearly two years in French wood (20 percent new) before light fining and bottling. Serve with roast beef now, or wait a couple more years to look for marital bliss.Tasted: 29 May 2017Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:Grape: Merlot
