Alexander Valley, Sonoma County, California, United StatesThis wine will surprise many with its pureness of fruit and mineral character, reflecting its marginal, high altitude soil. Brambles, black fruit and blackcurrant mix with savoury, dried herbs on the nose, surprisingly bright acidity and rich black cherry and black plums. There is no shortage of cabernet mountain tannins here that will persist for a decade. Lean, lithe and proudly New World this should keep a few folks in Napa Valley up late. The 5,100-acre site has 900 acres planted to grapes in 235 individual vineyard blocks.
