Quinta do Vallado Reserva field blend 2014
Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalAs the name implies, this is a field blend of old vines, at least 45 different grapes, with the majority comprised of tinta roriz, tinta amarela, touriga franca and tinta barroca, partially trodden in granite lagares. The 2014 shows a lovely freshness, confidence and complexity with layers of fresh black plum and cassis, earthy tobacco, branch and savoury notes. Dialling back the new oak in has made a big difference; this spent 18 months in French barriques, 60 percent of which were new. Drinking well now in youth with a decant, this will hold over the next decade in your cellar.Tasted: 06 February 2017Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:Portugal | $28.00 | 750ml |
