Niepoort Redoma Tinto 2014

Cima Corga, Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalRedoma was the first Niepoort dry Douro red. Tinta amarela, touriga franca, rufete, tinta roriz, tinto cão and more come from the schistous soils of Quinta de Nápoles as well as nearby vineyards, all averaging more than 70 years of age. When Carill doesn't make it into top wine Robustus, it goes into Redoma. This is vinified with 50 percent stalks in concrete lager before MLF and aging in old wooden foudres for 22 months. Fresher and less extracted than previous vintages (stalks in ferment? extended aging?) this still displays the firm structure of the Douro: dark cherry, wild herbal, resinous scrub, raspberry, with an undercurrent of earthy red currant and mineral salts and finely grippy tannins. Deep, lengthy and layered, with the concentration and acidity to last 10+ years easy. Beauty.Tasted: 06 February 2017Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
